TWINS UPDATE

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire has started his first-choice players when the opponent is in a postseason race. Now that the Twins are in Chicago, facing the fourth-place White Sox, Gardenhire will jumble up the lineups and play more inexperienced players. "It is important to let these guys get experience and see what they've got and see if they can handle these things,'' Gardenhire said. … The Twins lead the season series 9-7; the White Sox are one of just three AL teams they have a winning season record against.

WHITE SOX UPDATE

Chicago closer Jake Petricka earned his 12th save on Wednesday. It was his first game since Sept. 2, because he left the team to be present for the birth of his first child. … Jose Quintana has held Brian Dozier to a .227 batting average, but Joe Mauer is batting .444 against him with two homers. … Somehow, Moises Sierra is 8-for-16 in his career against Phil Hughes. … This will be Paul Konerko's final three games against the Twins; he plans to retire at the end of the season.
