Startling stat: Lynx starters had two assists in lopsided loss

After the Lynx lost Game 1 in the best-of-five WNBA Finals last Sunday, Taj McWilliams-Franklin said they did not have to make many changes. Just a little tinkering here and there. It was only a six-point loss.

On Friday, they were flattened, chewed up and embarrassed.

Hopefully, the Lynx have short memories. They need to forget this one. They were horrible in most areas. Lindsay Whalen led the league in assists, averaging 5.4 per game. She had zero.

Maya Moore had four turnovers and scored only eight points. The last time she was held to under 10 points was July 1.

Seimone Augustus, coming off a 27-point game, had six.

Taj McWilliams-Franklin made one basket on five shots and had four points and rebounds. She turns 42 on Saturday. Fever center Erlana Larkins, only a few years older than one of Mama Taj's two adult daughters, had 10 points and 15 boards.

Only Rebekkah Brunson had close to a normal game among the starters with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Looking for a bright spot? It's hard to find many.

The sun will come up in Indianapolis on Saturday. Unless it is overcast and rainy like it was Friday.

Rookie Devereaux Peters, being groomed to replace Taj in one of the next few seasons, had a strong all-around 15-1/2 minutes. She only had four points. Not impressive, but her other stats were good: four rebounds, and two team highs with three steals and three blocks.

Foul-prone Peters did well in that department, too, with just two fouls.

Can the Lynx win Sunday? Of course, but not if they bring their 'C' or 'D' game like they did Friday.

The Fever pressured them and the Lynx cracked like Humpty Dumpty. Now Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has to find some super glue to put her team back together. And quick.
