Tom Billeter of Augustana was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II Coach of the Year in men's basketball.

Billeter, in his 13th season at the NSIC school in Sioux Falls, S.D., led the Vikings to a 34-2 record and the first national championship in school history.

He will receive his award Sunday in Houston, and Augustana senior Daniel Jansen will be honored as the Division II player of the year.

Coffey honored

• Amir Coffey, a 6-7 senior forward for Hopkins High School, was honored as a Jordan Brand Classic All-America player. The presentation at his school also recognized his family, friends and community who have helped Coffey accomplish his goals on and off the court. He will play in the Jordan Brand Classic on April 15 at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.

• The St. Paul Saints will hold their annual open tryout on May 5 at CHS Field. It's free, and registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. Anyone attending should come in baseball attire with their own glove and a wood bat for position players.

• University of St. Thomas swimmer Emma Paulson, a junior from Wayzata who won three individual titles at the recent NCAA Division III meet, is one of 11 finalists for the Honda Athlete of the Year Award in her division. It will be presented June 27 in Los Angeles.

• The CBS Sports Network will televise 12 fall season NASL matches this year, including Fort Lauderdale at Minnesota United on Aug. 31.

• Minnesota State Mankato was named the NSIC favorite in both men's and women's outdoor track and field in two preseason coaches' polls.

• Minnesota State Mankato senior defenseman Jon Jutzi signed an amateur tryout agreement with Manitoba of the American Hockey League.

• Jake Guentzel, a junior from Woodbury, was named Omaha's MVP and outstanding forward. He led the Mavericks in scoring with 19 goals and 46 points. Guentzel, whose father, Mike, is Gophers associate head coach, has signed with the Penguins' top affiliate.

• Freshman forward Brock Boeser and junior defenseman Troy Stecher of North Dakota, and senior defenseman Ethan Prow of St. Cloud State were named to the All-College Hockey News' first team. Boeser is from Burnsville, Prow from Sauk Rapids, Minn.

• Three former athletes will be inducted into the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame this year. They are Emma Nelson (softball) and Jessica Dvergsten, (volleyball/basketball), both of Itasca Community College, and Todd Hendricks (football) of Minnesota State-Fergus Falls.
