Hannah Brandt scored four goals to lead the No. 1 Gophers women's hockey team to an 11-0 rout over St. Cloud State on Saturday at Ridder Arena.

Freshman linemate Sarah Potomak added two goals and three assists for the defending national champion Gophers (4-0, 2-0 WCHA), who won the series opener 7-0 on Friday.

The Gophers led Saturday's game 3-0 after the first period, then set an NCAA record by scoring eight goals on 10 shots in the second period. Teams had scored seven goals in a period nine times.

"Normally that doesn't happen," Gophers coach Brad Frost said, referring to so many shots going in. "… There were some bounces our way. It usually takes a lot more shots to generate that many goals. For some reason, tonight they were going in."

Brandt, a senior center, opened the scoring on a power-play goal at 2 minutes, 37 seconds of the opening period. Her next two goals, at 14:07 of the first and 5:22 of the second, came at even strength. She added a shorthanded goal at 9:17 of the second.

Defenseman Sydney Baldwin also had a big game with four assists. Three Gophers had three points apiece: Cara Piazza (two goals, one assist), Kate Schipper (one goal, two assists) and Dani Cameranesi (three assists).

Late in the second period, Schipper, Piazza and Potomak all scored within 32 seconds — three seconds shy of the program record for the three fastest goals — as a 7-0 lead ballooned to 11-0.

The Gophers, who swept at Penn State last weekend, have outscored opponents 25-0 this season.

Sidney Peters got the shutout, stopping six shots for her second shutout this season. Katie Fitzgerald and Taylor Crosby of St. Cloud State (2-2, 0-2) combined for 13 saves.

"To have a shutout again was good; that's what we're shooting for every game," Frost said. "Sid played well when we needed her to tonight."

The Gophers have won 27 games in a row against the Huskies and lead the all-time series 69-3-2.
