Badgers lose to Alaska Anchorage
• ALASKA ANCHORAGE 3, WISCONSIN 2: Chris Kamal stopped 26 shots as the Seawolves (9-8-2) edged the Badgers in a nonconference game at half-filled Kohl Center after taking a 3-1 lead in the second period. Scott Allen, Ben Matthews and Blake Tatchell scored goals for UAA. Tatchell’s eventual winner came on a power play with 1:25 left in the middle period. Tyler Barnes and Mark Zengerle each had a power-play goal and an assist for the Badgers (10-6-1). Anounced attendance was 8,411.
• NORTHERN MICHIGAN 4, BEMIDJI ST. 1: Shane Sooth and Sami Salminen scored goals 16 seconds apart in the second period for the visiting Wildcats (7-10-2, 5-5-1 WCHA) to break a 1-1 tie. Nate Arentz had the lone goal for the Beavers (5-10-6, 5-6-4) in the third minute of the game.
• MINNESOTA DULUTH 7, U18 U.S. TEAM 0: Seven different players scored as the Bulldogs routed the U.S. team at Amsoil Arena with four goals in the second period and three in the third. Austyn Young gave UMD a 1-0 lead at 4:24 of the second, then Tony Cameranesi and Kyle Osterberg scored 37 seconds apart in the middle of the period. Caleb Herbert’s power-play goal with 3:44 left made it 4-0 Bulldogs. Alex Iafallo, Joe Basaraba and Austin Farley scored for UMD in the third. The Bulldogs played a different goalie each period. Aaron Crandall had nine saves in the first period, Alex Fons six in the second and Matt McNeely four in the third. The shots were 26-19 in UMD’s favor.
• BRITISH COLUMBIA 3, NORTH DAKOTA 2 (OT): Jason Yee scored on a one-timer from one of the faceoff circles to give the Thunderbirds the victory over visiting UND in the Great Northwest Showcase in Burnaby, B.C. Connor Gaarder and Mitch MacMillan had goals for North Dakota, which was outshot 26-25. Trailing 2-1, British Columbia pulled its goalie late in the third period and tied the score on Joe Antilla’s goal with 52 seconds left in regulation.
