Joe Christensen covered Major League Baseball for 15 years, including three seasons at the Baltimore Sun and eight at the Star Tribune, before switching to the college football beat. He’s a Faribault, Minn., native who graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1996. He covered Jim Wacker’s Gophers for the Minnesota Daily and also wrote about USC, UCLA and the Rose Bowl for the Riverside Press-Enterprise before getting this chance to cover football again.

Gophers coach Jerry Kill said Tuesday that he's not sure when he'll return to the sideline during games, but he made it clear he's had an active role behind the scenes at practices, in meetings and dealing with recruiting.
Kill, who began a leave of absence to treat his epilepsy on Oct. 10, said he'll be coaching from the press box next Saturday at Indiana, as he has for the previous two games.
"I kind of enjoyed it up there," he said. "... We’re going to take it week by week. I can tell you this: We aren't going to screw it up right now, and I will be in the box at Indiana. And I've got enough trust in what we’re doing.
"Will I do that my whole career and that stuff? I'm not worrying about it. I’m taking it one day at a time. ... There’s a lot of ways to do things. I’m not going to make those decisions right now, but I am a little superstitious, and we’re not going to change a whole lot."
Tracy Claeys will remain acting head coach. As for a health update, Kill said he expects to be driving again by February, an indication he intends to be seizure free by then.
"I’m going to be driving that truck, too," he said. "As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to order the thing this week. And I ain't lying. ... I’m just talking from the heart. But I guess that sums it up. I’m going to beat the odds. I’ll be driving. You remember that, all right?"
