Minnesota Scene: Three undrafted Gophers picked up by NFL teams

  • Updated: April 30, 2013 - 12:36 AM

At least three former Gophers players — MarQueis Gray, Troy Stoudermire and Michael Carter — have been picked up by NFL teams and will have a chance to make an impression as undrafted free agents. Gray, who figures to convert from quarterback to tight end or wide receiver if he makes it at the next level, is heading to the 49ers. Stoudermire, a cornerback, was nabbed by the Bengals. Carter, a cornerback, is headed to the Vikings.

Boldt on his way back

Red Wing’s Ryan Boldt expects to be back on the field early next week. The star outfielder, projected as a possible MLB first-round draft pick, injured his knee last Friday against Farmington, but an MRI on Monday showed no serious damage. Doctors saw no obvious ligament tears, but cautioned there might be a small tear in the meniscus.

Etc.

• Former Bemidji State tight end Brian Leonhardt of Blaine signed a three-year undrafted free-agent contract with the Oakland Raiders.
