Ramler named Johnnies offensive coordinator; younger Gagliardi reassigned

New St. John’s University head football coach Gary Fasching named Kurt Ramler, a 1997 Johnnies graduate and recent finalist for school's head-coaching vacancy, as associate head coach and offensive coordinator.

Jim Gagliardi, who was offensive coordinator for his father John, has been reassigned  He will coach wide receivers and be the school's coordinator of football operations. His father, John Gagliardi, retired after 60 seasons as St. John's coach,

Ramler, who is expected to begin his full-time post next week 14, compiled a 22-38 record as head coach at Carleton for six seasons from 2006-11. He was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading Carleton to a 7-3 record, its best season since 1992.

“Kurt is a young, energetic and innovative coach who will bring great enthusiasm and experience to our program,” Fasching said in a news release. “He is also a proven recruiter and will attract quality student-athletes to Saint John’s. I am very excited to have him join our staff.”

Prior to Carleton, Ramler served as an offensive assistant at four institutions, including a one-year stint at St. John's in 2002. Ramler' was 27-3-1 as a starting quarterback for the Johnnies and threw 87 touchdown passes. He was named MVP of the Minnesota Intercolleagie Athletic Conference as a senior.
