Blueberry Pines Golf Club in Menahga, Minnesota, designed in 1991 by Joel Goldstrand, takes advantage of the natural beauty of the former Christmas tree farm from which it's carved. You'll start your day at the immense log cabin clubhouse, which combines the pro shop, lounge, restaurant and event facility.
The networked GPS system on the carts will provide you with updated distances to all pertinent shot locations: pin, front and back edges, lay-up area, hazards and locations of other carts on the hole. You can even preorder a sandwich or snack from the 9th tee. Blueberry Pines' layout gives the average golfer a generously open landing area from the tee, leading to soft, lush greens bordered by sand, marshes and natural water hazards.
Five tee boxes offer a different look and a variety of challenges in traversing this landscape. After becoming comfortable with the opening holes, signage will alert you to the Death Valley trio (#5, 6 and 7), where the fairways are narrower, the water more plentiful and the tee shots more challenging. A special feature of the 7th hole is the presence of two parallel tee areas and fairways, offering either an open drive to a dogleg or a straight shot that must carry the marsh and water hazard fronting the tee area. Other delights will present themselves, including wildlife views, a family of trumpeter swans, covered bridges and the beautifully maintained grounds.
A full bar and varied menu is available at the clubhouse, and a buffet breakfast is available until 1 pm on Sundays. Food service is prompt and affordable, and the facilities are welcoming and comfortable. Stop at the well-appointed pro shop, talk to PGA pro Jim Carlson about instruction or swing analysis, or make use of the practice range and putting green as you continue to improve your game Blueberry Pines' excellent website includes aerial photos and course layout, rates and information on events and lessons. You can also book tee times and purchase merchandise, gift certificates or packages. Try Blueberry Pinesyou'll like it.
