Former Gophers golfer Donald Constable won his PGA Tour card by the narrowest of margins, finishing the six-round tour qualifying tournament at La Quinta, Calif. at 17 under par.

All 26 players who shot 17 under or better qualified for the 2013 PGA Tour at the tournament, where the top 25 and ties earn their cards. Constable's 3-under 69 on Monday at the TPC Stadium Course moved him up from a tie for 30th. All six of his rounds were under par.

Constable, 23, won two state high school golf titles at Minnetonka.

He won $25,000 Monday in addition to his Tour card.

The PGA Tour next year will end a half-century of tradition when Q-school will only provide cards to the secondary Web.com Tour.

The PGA Tour is changing its structure to make it more competitive than ever.

The players who failed to reach the FedEx Cup playoffs will meet in a series of four tournaments called "The Finals," and the 25 players who earn the most money from those events will get their cards
