5 golfers to Hall of Fame

The Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame will induct five new members this year: Kelly (Varty) Burley, of Elk River, and, posthumously, Harold Bend, Art and Herb Cohrs, and Howie Johnson. They will be inducted at various golf association events throughout the year.

Burley won multiple Minnesota Women's Public Links and Minnesota Women's State Amateur championships. Bend won MGA Amateur Championships in 1902 and 1904 and the MGA Senior Amateur Championship in 1923 and 1924. The Cohrs brothers epitomized innovation in the formative years of pro golf course maintenance. They built the first eight-tined greens aerification machine in 1937. Johnson won two PGA Tour events and then played on the Champions Tour.
