Now, finally, after a week of training camp, the Timberwolves get to play in a game most of us won't see.

Tuesday's preseason opener at Indiana won't be on either TV or on local radio.

But it will be a chance for coach Flip Saunders to see how his players – particularly the younger ones – have absorbed the team's playbook and the way Saunders wants them to play.

The plan for both Tuesday's game and Friday's game vs. Philadelphia at Target Center is to play a lot of the younger guys while limiting the minutes for the veterans.

"I don't know how much we'll play a lot of our vets," Saunders said after Monday's practice. "We'll play a lot of the younger guys. We'll pick 10 or 11 guys to play certain games here. Some of the vets will play a little, but not extensive minutes."

The first two preseason games will be used for individual assessment of players. After a week of camp the Wolves will play two preseason games in four days. Then they have most of a week before the third preseason game. To Saunders, that gives the team almost a second training camp, during which he and his staff will start looking at potential rotations.

"I'm not going to put too much into the games," he said. "We just want to see if they are understanding what we're working on in practice, to see if they can translate that into game-type situations.''

Here are some other post-practice nuggets:

--Veteran guard Kevin Martin (groin injury) didn't take part in practice, won't play Tuesday and likely won't do any practicing until Thursday at the earliest.

--Zach LaVine is looking forward to his first NBA game. But he already has gotten a good idea how much more physical the pro game is, and how big an adjustment it will take. He said he ran into Nikola Pekovic on a screen at a recent practice and basically collapsed to the ground.

--LaVine and Glenn Robinson III did an Usher duet during the rookie talent show. LaVine and Andrew Wiggins rapped a Tupac song and did pretty well. But he made one thing clear: None of the rookies can sing.
