Minnetonka is about to be the latest city to allow breweries to have taprooms as the brewery boom continues across the Twin Cities.
The City Council is expected to approve changes to its city ordinances Monday to allow taprooms and brewpubs, joining an influx in suburbs doing so since the 2011 change in state law known as the "Surly bill." It allowed taprooms on the same site where beer is brewed.
If approved Monday, the city changes will allow brewpubs and taprooms to have on- and off-sale liquor licenses in most commercial areas in Minnetonka with a conditional use permit, similar to restaurants, and in industrial zoning areas.
The city says Lucid Brewing plans to open a taproom. Under current city rules, the microbrewery is only allowed to brew beer and sell growlers.
