INDIANAPOLIS — Jordan Taylor earned his fourth straight Grand Am-Rolex Sports Car Series pole Thursday, turning a lap in 1 minute, 22.251 seconds at 110.909 mph on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.534-mile, 13-turn road circuit.
The 22-year-old Taylor teams with Italy's Max Angelelli in Wayne Taylor Racing's No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette Dallara DP. Taylor and Angelelli have victories this year in Alabama and Detroit and lead the team and driver standings.
"It was obviously good," Jordan Taylor said "We didn't start out all that strong, trying a few different things. It's a very unique track with a very long front straight and then a very technical section, so you have to decide whether to go high-downforce or low-downforce.
"We tried a few things in practice to figure out what we wanted and we were not even in the top 10 in a couple of sessions. So, we were a little worried, but we knew, once we were in qualifying mode, we'd have a good car. And, obviously, we did. I'm happy to be on the pole. It's not an Indy 500 pole, but it's definitely cool, anything at Indianapolis in motorsports, in any form. To get this pole is awesome."
Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates' No. 01 BMW Riley, driven by Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett, qualified second for the three-hour race Friday.
