By far the worst incident this morning has been on northbound 35E at the Cayuga Bridge where six or more vehicles were involved in a crash just after 8 a.m. Tow trucks are now on the scene hauling away the wreckage, but the freeway remains closed.
Traffic is being forced to exit at Pennsylvania Avenue. That has created a backup to downtown St. Paul.
Along with 35E, the accident is snarling traffic on westbound 94. Plan on 25 minutes from 694 to reach downtown St. Paul, and another 20 to reach downtown Minneapolis.
Icy bridges have led to numerous accidents this morning. On westbound 494, the drive is 75 minutes from Hwy. 61 to Cedar Avenue.
The State Patrol also is responding to a rollover crash on Hwy. 610 near West River Road in Brooklyn Park.
