VILLAGE OF PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. - A lakeshore village in southeastern Wisconsin is urging some residents to evacuate because of potential flooding caused by Superstorm Sandy.
The voluntary evacuation area covers about 265 homes near Lake Michigan. Village Administrator Mike Pollocoff said Tuesday morning sandbagging in flood-prone areas continued through the night. Pollocoff says he hasn't been notified of any evacuations so far. The village advised residents in the affected area to leave by 8 a.m.
The National Weather Service is predicting waves of 14 to 18 feet along the Lake Michigan shoreline through Tuesday night.
The village near the Illinois border has about 20,000 residents.
