The colder weather means lots of hot apple cider, chicken soup and hot chocolate. That also means many people will suffer from burned tounges, but researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have developed dissolvable strips to relieve the pain.

According the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the strips are applied to the burned part of the tongue, cheek or roof of the mouth, and "it quickly dissolves for instant pain relief and promotes healing." They contain a local anesthetic, benzocaine, and a therapeutic polymer. Benzocaine is used as a topical pain reliever in dental products and throat lozenges,

Don't expect the strips to hit store shelves this winter, though. Researchers still need to test them on humans and "experiment with taste-masking."

On Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, Seth Meyers said there is another alternative to the strips: "just wait a minute."
