“The Origin(s) Project” has definite legs.

This pair of adoption-themed  playlets by writer-performers Katie Hae Leo (above) and Sun Mee Chomet (below) will definitely be remounted now that the duo's Kickstarter campaign has been successful, with a week left to raise funds for a professional DVD.

Their funny and quirky pitch, launched on Aug. 22 and including deadpan excerpts by singer-songwriter Bri Heu, was answered by 144 backers. The donors gave on a spectrum from a dollar or above (seven givers) to one benefactor who gave above $1,500. In all, the campaign so far has raised $10,736.

The show, a pair of poignant pieces about Chomet's successful search for her Korean birth family and Leo's unsuccessful attempts to find out more about her own roots, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thu.-Fri., 2 & 7:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 25-Nov. 3 at Dreamland Arts, 677 Hamline Av. N., St Paul. Tickets go on sale Sept. 21.

The venue is small, with less than 50 seats. Last time out, the box office turned away scores of would-be patrons.
