The Vikings dealt defensive end Jayme Mitchell to the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday for a late-round pick in the 2012 draft. The move was first reported by ESPN.

Mitchell was signed as a rookie free agent by the Vikings in 2006 out of Mississippi. He played in 23 games over his first two seasons with Minnesota before misssing 2008 because of a knee injury suffered in the preseason against Seattle.

Mitchell, 26, returned last season to play in five games, including the NFC title game against New Orleans, and this season had one sack in two games.

The Vikings had 10 defensive linemen on their roster entering today. It would not be surprising if the Vikings add an offensive lineman to their roster to replace Mitchell. They have been carrying eight and center John Sullivan could be sidelined for Monday's game against the Jets because of a calf injury.

Update: The Vikings officially announced the trade on their website, although the deal is contingent upon Mitchell passing his physical with the Browns.
