The power is back on for 19,000 Twin Cities residents after an outage hit some neighborhoods Tuesday afternoon.
As temperatures soared into the low 90s, neighborhoods in south Minneapolis, along Hiawatha and Cedar Avs., and parts of St. Paul's Highland neighborhood lost power about 3 p.m. because of equipment failure, said Xcel spokeswoman Patti Nystuen. Traffic lights in Minneapolis were out on E. Lake St. from 36th Av. S. all the way to the Mississippi River, and on a stretch of Hiawatha Av.
Nystuen said most customers had their power restored by 4:06 p.m.
