The shutdown's end causes uptick in jobs numbers

Minnesota added 28.400 jobs last month, but that doesn't necessarily mean a recovery has taken hold.

"Minnesota added 28,400 jobs in August, largely related to laid-off state employees returning to work after the three-week government shutdown ended," the state Department of Employment and Economic Development said Thursday.

Better news: initial claims for unemployment benefits were 19,625 in August, which is the fewest in three years, according to the new figures.

The state's jobless rate remained unchanged from July at 7.2 percent.
