Minnesota hog farmers Tuesday presented a major food shelf with 5,000 pounds of ground pork, enough meat for 20,000 servings to area families.
The Minnesota Pork Board donated the meat, worth almost $10,000, to Second Harvest Heartland, the Upper Midwest's largest food relief organization.
"Protein donations like pork are tremendously valuable, as they are some of the most costly to buy for our neighbors in need," Second Harvest CEO Rob Zeaske said in statement.
Dave Preisler, the Minnesota Pork board's executive director, said the group exceeded its donation goal of 4,000 pounds.
