Steppin' out

The Nobel Prize ceremony isn't the only soiree Bob Dylan opted to miss this year. The Minnesota legend couldn't make the Sept. 15 concert recorded for "Tony Bennett at 90: The Best Is Yet to Come," but in October, he recorded a number in Alabama that will be included in the special that also features Elton John, Billy Joel and Lady Gaga. No word on what song Dylan chose, but it's safe to say it wasn't "Things Have Changed."

Senior moment

Dustin Hoffman was only 48 when he took on the title role in "Death of a Salesman," but a combination of committed acting and top-notch makeup make his 1985 performance — and the overall production — the perfect centerpiece for a night of films dedicated to "the golden years." John Malkovich and Charles Durning also contribute to what remains one of my all-time favorite viewing events.
