LOS ANGELES — Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will take on Willie Monroe Jr. in his next fight on May 16 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler announced the matchup Friday.

Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) has stopped his last 19 opponents, including an 11-round victory over Martin Murray in Monaco last month. He holds the WBA and IBO 160-pound titles and the interim WBC belt.

Unable to land a bout with WBC champion Miguel Cotto or other big-name stars, Golovkin settled for Monroe (19-1, 6 KOs), a little-known fighter from upstate New York with nine consecutive victories.

Golovkin sold out the outdoor StubHub Center last year, so his promoters have moved him to the larger Forum. The Kazakh fighter is popular in Los Angeles, where he moved last year.
