Miami (Fla.) running back Mark Walton will require season-ending surgery on his right ankle, a major blow for the 11th-ranked and unbeaten Hurricanes.

Walton was injured in Miami's victory over Florida State on Saturday, and surgery is expected to be scheduled later this week, coach Mark Richt said.

Walton was Miami's leading rusher, with 428 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Backup running back Travis Homer will likely step into the starting role. Homer has played well, rushing for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

Injuries elsewhere

• Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said he expects injured quarterback Kelly Bryant to practice this week and play Friday against Syracuse. Bryant sprained his left ankle Saturday and left the game.
