The Gophers trail Maryland 17-10 at halftime, and Minnesota's secondary took another blow when Antoine Winfield Jr. left the game because of an apparent hamstring injury.
KFXN reported that Winfield, who was injured in the first quarter, will not return to the game.
The Gophers already were without starting safety Duke McGhee, who was not on the sideline in pregame warmups. They also lost cornerback Zo Craighton for the season because of a leg injury suffered Sept. 16 vs. Middle Tennessee.
Adekunle Ayinde and Jacob Huff played safety on Saturday, and the Gophers also used true freshman Ken Handy-Holly, a player they had hope to redshirt this year.
