The Vikings downgraded slot cornerback Captain Munnerlyn to out for Sunday's game in Washington.

Munnerlyn's right ankle was heavily taped in his return to practice on Friday. He was initially ruled questionable with an ankle sprain, which will end Munnerlyn's 74-game streak. He hasn't missed a kickoff since a strained hamstring ended his 2011 season.

It's a tough break for a Vikings secondary that was stout in the slot because of Munnerlyn. Rookie Mackensie Alexander briefly replaced Munnerlyn against the Lions and was yanked for Terence Newman, who could remain in the slot.

The Vikings (5-3) kick off against the Redskins (4-3-1) at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
