A former Hennepin County public defender has been suspended from practicing law for a year for failing to pay income taxes.

Jason McGee, 37, of Brooklyn Park, failed to file state income taxes in a timely matter from 2008 to 2011, according to a disciplinary petition filed by the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility. He was convicted of failing to pay taxes and didn't appear at court hearings on two related matters.

He also wouldn't cooperate with the disciplinary investigation against him. He later admitted to the allegations in the petition.

The state Supreme Court Monday suspended McGee from practicing law for a minimum of one year, but he can apply for reinstatement in 10 months. He resigned from the public defender's office last year.
