Jealous St. Paul woman gets 3 years for stabbing boyfriend

Last update: April 24, 2009 - 10:05 PM

A 31-year-old St. Paul woman who stabbed her boyfriend in the heart after he flirted with another woman was sentenced Friday in Ramsey County District Court to three years and three months in prison.

Corinna Jo Hernandez pleaded guilty in February to one count of second-degree assault.

The stabbing happened May 4 in a home in the 800 block of Sherburne Avenue in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood. When arrested, Hernandez reportedly asked police whether she had killed her boyfriend, and then added while being taken into custody, "Can I have a cigarette before I go to prison for life?"

District Judge Robert Awsumb gave Hernandez credit for the 355 days she has spent in custody and ordered her to pay a $100 fine and restitution.
