The father of a gang member caught up in a dispute between the Asian Crips and Bloods has admitted to an October shooting that left a Brooklyn Park man dead in a St. Paul alley.

Nai Vang, 38, is expected to plead guilty Monday in Ramsey County District Court to charges of third-degree murder and second-degree assault, a spokeswoman for the county attorney's office said Friday.

Vang signaled his agreement to a plea deal during a court appearance Friday, she said.

The shooting incident began with a fight over a girl, witnesses said, but escalated with about 20 alleged Bloods members converging on Vang's home, and his son, an Asian Crips member, saying, "If they want a fight, let's fight."

The elder Vang then allegedly fired a rifle into the group outside, fatally wounding Chia N. Yang, 18. In addition to being shot in the chest, Yang also was run over by a car leaving the alley in the 800 block of E. Jessamine Avenue, police said.

Three months earlier, Nai Vang had been shot in the 600 block of Wells Street by gang members, and according to the murder charge against him, he believed the gang members "were coming back to finish him off."
