Melanie Vang, a third-grader at St. Paul’s American Indian Magnet School, got some high-fives from volunteers as she entered a new school library Thursday, donated in a joint effort by Target and the Heart of American Foundation.

The two groups unveiled the state-of-the-art library and a Target Meals for Minds food pantry to students and teachers at the school.

About 2,000 books were donated and each of the approximately 750 students received free books through the program.

Also Thursday, some of the 184 Target volunteers dealt with a traffic jam at the school elevator as books were distributed to classrooms.
