A 6-year-old girl has joined her mother as a fatality in a two-vehicle crash in Carver County during a weekend that has now seen at least seven traffic deaths amid icy conditions in and around the Twin Cities area.

The crash occurred Saturday afternoon southeast of Waconia on County Road 10 near 102nd Street, critically injuring van driver Misty Petschl, 34, of Waconia, and her children, 8-year-old Spencer and 6-year-old Jazmine, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Misty Petschl died that night at Hennepin County Medical Center, and Jazmine since has died, according to a fundraising website set up on behalf of the family. Spencer remained at HCMC in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Petschl was heading west on County Road 10 and lost control on the snowy and icy surface. Her van slid into the path of an oncoming SUV. Both vehicles were severely damaged.

The four people in the SUV were treated for noncritical injuries.

Five other people were killed in numerous crashes in the region Saturday and Sunday on icy roads.
