Exposure to the cold killed a north metro man whose body was found last spring in Winona in the compartment of an RV that had been rented by a group of men headed to the Kentucky Derby, authorities said Monday.

Kevin Casserly, 22, of Anoka, died from hypothermia, said Anoka County Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer. The commander said his office was notified on Friday of the preliminary findings by the medical examiner for Winona County.

The examiner said the manner of death remains undetermined, Sommer added, meaning that there has been no finding yet about whether Casserly's death was accidental.

The owner of the RV is not considered a suspect, nor are members of the bachelor party, authorities said soon after Casserly's body was found May 1 in a lower compartment. Casserly was reported missing by his family last November.
