Art Shanty Projects wins $100,000 grant

A national philanthropic outfit called ArtPlace America is investing $100,000 in Minnesota's Art Shanty Projects.

The Minneapolis-based organization will use funds from the 2015 National Grants Program to present its On-Ice Program in White Bear Lake during the winters of 2016 and 2017.

Art Shanty Projects was selected from a pool of nearly 1,300 applicants and is among 38 grantees located throughout the country.

For the past decade, Art Shanty Projects has organized a monthlong public happening that transforms a frozen lake surface into an interactive, artist-driven temporary community. The 2014 On-Ice Program brought 11,350 people to White Bear Lake over eight days.
