Track work could bring slower trips on Northstar line

BNSF will begin a mandatory inspection and routine maintenance on its tracks between Fridley and downtown Minneapolis today and that could impact travel times of Northstar trains.

Metro Transit says intermittent delays of 7 to 10 minutes for southbound trains and 12 to 15 minutes for northbound trains can be expected during the project, which will last for the next three weeks.

During the project, all trains using the tracks between Fridley and Target Field station will have to travel at slower speeds through the work zone, Metro Transit said.

Northstar trains run from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis on tracks owned by BNSF.
