Fire wipes out garbage business in Kasota

Posted by: Curt Brown Updated: January 29, 2014 - 9:58 AM

A massive fire has destroyed seven garbage trucks and a maintenance building near Kasota, but no one was injured.

The Tuesday morning blaze at Hansen Sanitation in Kasota required fire departments from Kasota, St. Peter, Le Center, Cleveland, Madison Lake and Eagle Lake.

"It really hurts," employee Brian Schmidt told the Mankato Free Press. "I've put a lot of blood and sweat into trying to help this [business] grow. I have no idea what we're going to do."

Hansen Sanitation services garbage and recycling routes in North Mankato, but the company doesn't expect more than a one-day delay in service.
