The city of Orono has gone to court to stop a resident from putting up a back-yard wind generator, ramping up a confrontation that began last fall.

In December, Whistleblower described the conflict between Jay Nygard and the city over his plan to put a home-sized turbine on his lakeshore property. Nygard said he's a green entrepreneur who wants a working model to help him sell the units. The city says zoning prohibits the turbine, but Nygard hasn't let a building permit denial or a stop-work order keep him from setting up the turbine.

The city's lawsuit says the wind turbine is too close to property lines and Nygard's house and asks a judge to force him to take it down. Nygard contends that the city is misinterpreting the rules.
