DULUTH, Minn. — It took a little longer than expected, but the first saltie of the year has docked at the Twin Ports harbor.

The heavy ice cover on Lake Superior made arriving in port quite a challenge. The ice was too thick for the 453-foot Diana to make it into the harbor earlier this week. But, the ocean-going vessel finally made it under the Aerial Lift Bridge and docked near the base of the Blatnik Bridge.

WDIO-TV (http://bit.ly/1qlM7fi ) says port leaders greeted the captain and crew of the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged ship in a special ceremony Thursday.
