Just after Minnesota dug itself out of the snow from the weekend and with a snow emergency still in effect in Minneapolis, 2 to 5 more inches of snow is expected in the metro area today, the National Weather Service said.

A snow advisory has been issued for much of Minnesota for today, ranging from Morris and Willmar down to just north of Mankato and extending into west-central Wisconsin, the Weather Service said.

Light snow should begin falling in the west metro area after 6 a.m., the Weather Service said, and could make for a slippery commute, especially along and north of Interstate 94.

By afternoon rush hour, the wind could pick up, and depending on how much snow has fallen, the afternoon commute could turn ugly, the Weather Service said.

The snow will fall on Day 3 of Minneapolis' snow emergency. Beginning at 8 a.m., no parking is allowed on the odd side of non-snow-emergency route streets in Minneapolis. Don't park on the side of the street with odd-numbered house addresses until the side is fully-plowed to the curb.

By 7 p.m. on Monday, the second day of the snow emergency in Minneapolis, the city had towed about 1,400 cars. On Sunday, the city towed 750 cars and Monday the number dropped slightly to 675 cars, according Minneapolis officials.

Parking restrictions in St. Paul ended Monday night, but a release from the city said tagging and towing of illegally parked cars will continue even after plowing is completed, until Thursday night.

Information about the number of towed vehicles in St. Paul was not immediately available Monday night.

Today's high is expected to be 23 degrees. The coldest day of the week may be Wednesday, with a high of 16 to 18 degrees expected, the National Weather Service said.

Snow could fall again Thursday, with highs about 21 degrees. Friday temperatures will dip into the teens. The weekend could be a little warmer, with highs in the low 20s expected Saturday and mid 20s Sunday, the Weather Service said.
