A recent issue of ShopSmart Magazine gave the lowdown on dozens of shopping sites and apps that will help you find the best deals and save money.

Three of these free money-saving apps are decoded below:

CardStar: Some people have stopped carrying a lot of store loyalty cards because they take up so much space in a wallet, thus losing store points on some purchases. This app puts all the information from loyalty cards on your phone so all you have to do is show the phone to the cashier. It works on Android, Apple and Blackberry.

GasBuddy: The folks who created the website of the same name also have an app to help you save at the gas pump. They use crowd-sourcing — users report gas prices from various locations — to find the lowest prices around town. Contributors have the chance to win free gas. Available for Android, Apple, Blackberry and Windows.

Sale Price: Have you ever tried to calculate the cost after sales tax and the discount — without using a calculator? Not fun. With Sale Price, you enter the price, the sale amount plus any other markdowns and the sales-tax percentage and you get a total cost. For Android and Apple.
