Whether it was your first day of third grade, or the first time you stepped onto your college campus, school firsts become lasting memories, sometimes even the stuff of family lore.

Did you end up on the wrong bus coming home from elementary school? Did you mistake the principal for the hall monitor? Become the first kid on your street to be a school patrol? Ask an upperclassman how to get to your classroom, only to be told it was on the third floor — which didn’t exist?

Going back to school is always an adventure, no matter what decade you went. What was your most memorable first day of school? Share your anecdotes, and we’ll publish the best ones in an upcoming edition of the Variety section.

Please send your entries — by Aug. 26 — to: Back to School Stories, Star Tribune, Variety section, 425 Portland Av. S., Minneapolis, MN 55488. Or e-mail your stories to tellus@startribune.com.
