The highly-anticipated American version of a pretty good Swedish movie of a reasonably compelling but flatly written Swedish novel has been chosen. Rooney Mara will play Lisbeth Salander:

Yep, that looks about right. I'm not exactly eager to see the movie, because A) the Swedish one satisfied whatever need I had to see the story on the screen, and B) unless they change the plot and she develops a personality that doesn't consist of looking glum and blank, it's going to be another movie about a SUPERHACKER who does amazing things by TYPING, and C) I know how it ends.

Reading the second one now, which, as I may have mentioned, is horrible. It's impossible to describe the sense that nothing is happening. Well, something did happen, but now I'm at the point of the book where 17 different cops I can't keep straight are going around to 12 different people with names that end in "-sson" and asking if they've seen Salander. If you've read the book, you know what I mean.
