'75 Gifts for 75 years'

Opening Thursday: In honor of its 75th anniversary as a contemporary art venue, Walker Art Center solicited gifts of art from supportive local and international collectors. More than 250 paintings, sculptures, photos, drawings, prints, videos and other works arrived from nearly 100 donors. Of those, 75 pieces will be showcased, including historic pieces by Philip Guston, Gordon Matta-Clark and sculptor Isamu Noguchi — creator of the piece seen here — as well as younger artists including Walead Beshty, Dianna Molzan, Tauba Auerbach and Zak Prekop. The show kicks off "Winter Walkerland," a weekend of free stuff including gallery admission Thursday evening through Sunday, an opening party with vodka ice bar (5-9 p.m. Thu.), family art-making (10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat., 11 a.m.-4 p.m. next Sun.), gallery talks (noon-3 p.m. Sat.-next Sun.) and ice skating on a temporary rink in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
