Bands, beer & bacon: What's on tap at Art-A-Whirl 2014

Northeast Minneapolis’ Art-A-Whirl has arguably become the biggest neighborhood-wide party of the year, with craft brewers, restaurants and bars hosting block parties.

612Brew: Three days of music, including rappers MaLLy, Botzy and Big Jess; Afrobeat band Black Market Brass; indie band Step Rockets, and Lydia Hoglund of Bomba de Luz. (Fri.-Sun., 945 Broadway St.)

Indeed Brewing: Two days of music, including throwback soul band Southside Desire, the classic-rock-inspired Little Man, surf rockers France Camp, Duluth-bred blues band Black-Eyed Snakes and psych-pop brother-sister duo the Chambermaids. (Fri.-Sat., 711 15th Av. NE.)

331 Club: A whopping 27 bands on indoor and outdoor stages, including Mark Mallman, the Cloak Ox, Hastings 3000, Dosh, Tickle Torture, Black Diet, BNLX, Sun Gods to Gamma Rays and Field Trip. (6 p.m. Fri., noon Sat., 12:30 p.m. Sun. Free. 331 13th Av. NE.)

Anchor Fish & Chips: Thirteen bands in the parking lot, including Romantica, Marijuana Deathsquads, Magic Castles, the Cactus Blossoms and Black Audience. (Noon-9 p.m. Sat., noon-8 p.m. Sun. 302 13th Av. NE.)

Grumpy’s: Martin Devaney’s power-pop band Crossing Guards returns to the stage during Grumpy’s daylong fest. Other bands include the Blind Shake, Eleganza! and Romantica. (1-10 p.m. Sat. Free before 3 p.m., $5 after. 2200 NE. 4th St.)

Stanley’s Beer & Bacon Festival: Seven bacon flavors paired with more than 100 local and regional beers, and bacon-inspired dishes from Stanley’s food truck. The White Keys and Orange Whip perform. (2-5 p.m. Sat. $40-90. Free music till 10 p.m. 2500 University Av. NE., Mpls.)
