Mulaney stands up

With a second season of his namesake sitcom reportedly nixed, boyish comic John Mulaney is back to his stand-up roots. Once billed as Chicago's Seinfeld, Mulaney is well-mannered onstage while delivering bits about lazy racial slurs and getting lawyered by his parents.

Techno Detroit style

American electronic music royalty plays the modest Studio B room in the Skyway Theatre on Saturday. Detroit techno hero Carl Craig carried the torch lit by godfathers Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, helping spark the scene's second wave in the '90s and co-founding the precursor to Movement — the country's premier underground electronic music festival.
