The Children's Theatre has won its second Joyce Award. The $50,000 prize, from the Chicago-based Joyce Foundation, will go to support the development of "The Last Firefly," a new play by Naomi Iizuka that is based on folktales from her native Japan.

The play is expected to be workshopped this February at Carelton College and to premiere in the 2013 Chldren's Theatre season, according to officials at the theater.

It is the second Joyce Award that a theater has won in conjuction with Iizuka. She developed "Ghostwritten," a play based on Rumplestiltskin, under the aegis of a 2004 award. It premiered at Chicago's Goodman Theatre in 2009.

The Children's Theatre received Joyce Foundation support for Will Power's "Five Fingers of Funk," which premiered in Minneapolis in 2008.
