Jazz composer and bandleader Maria Schneider is stuck in New York because of Hurricane Sandy, so Tuesday night's Maria Schneider Orchestra concert at the Dakota Jazz Club has been canceled.

Schneider does have a flight booked for 8 a.m. Wednesday, and is hopeful that the second night of her two-night homecoming gig will go on as planned, Dakota owner Lowell Pickett said Monday afternoon.

Virtually all flights to and from the East Coast have been grounded, causing travel disruptions across the United States.

Schneider's group is based in New York, but some of its members are flying in from other locations. Pickett said he expects trumpeter Ingrid Jensen -- who was playing in China -- to be here Tuesday night along with saxophonist Donny McCaslin and one other member. They'll likely sit in with local group Davina and the Vagabonds, who have stepped in to play at the Dakota Tuesday.

Several more members might show up by Wednesday, even if Schneider can't make it. So stay tuned.
