The fifth and final inbound run on the Northstar Commuter line has been delayed and buses will substitute for the train, Metro Transit officials said.

A northbound Northstar train struck an unoccupied vehicle in the crossing at Proctor Avenue northwest of Elk River just after 7 a.m. There were no injuries.

That trip normally becomes the last inbound trip. That won't run and Metro Transit will use buses will be deployed.

Spokesman John Siqveland said the train has been cleared to operate, but it will be "departing significantly later than the 7:21 scheduled time."

Elk River police are investigating.
