Lt. Gov. will 'look and see' whether to stay on for a second term

Minnesota's governor and lieutenant governor have a silent partnership that has no guarantee of continuing, according to both top officials.

On Tuesday, Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon said of Gov. Mark Dayton, "we don't talk very often."  Dayton said of Prettner Solon, who recently said that she and the governor largely go their own ways, that he was  "not going to comment on our relationship."

Both left open the possibility that they would not share a ticket when Dayton runs for a second term next year.

"We spoke a couple of weeks ago and agreed we’d talk about 2014 and possibly beyond at the end of this year," Dayton said on Tuesday. "It’s her decision to make. We agreed we’d talk about it at the end of the year so I didn’t pursue that question."

Prettner Solon, a former state senator, said she would figure out whether to continue on the ticket after the first of the year.

"I will just look and see," the benefits of staying on or not, Prettner Solon said.
