There's another guilty plea in the deadly synthetic drug ring out of Grand Forks. Scott Joseph Anthony, 27, is the 10th person charged in what federal prosecutors say was a Grand Forks-based conspiracy to produce and deal synthetic psychedelic drugs that in June led to the deaths of two teenagers and the hospitalization of at least five others, the Grand Forks Herald reports. The case focuses on Andrew Spofford, 22, who grew up in Fargo and attended UND. Investigators with the Grand Forks Narcotics Task Force who arrested Spofford in June said he told them he was a "hobby chemist," had ordered chemicals from Europe and elsewhere to make hallucinogens and solicited others to sell his products. Spofford and four other former UND students, including one woman, have pleaded not guilty and are set for trial this fall on charges that could put them in prison for 20 years or more. ________________________ A Lake City restaurant is getting a free makeover – and a night in the national limelight – courtesy of "Restaurant Impossible," a Food Network show. Show staffers, and its star Robert Irvine, have been at Bronk's Bar and Grill this week, first gathered in the apparently money-losing restaurant (that's one criteria to make the show's cut), then in tents outside it. Bronk's co-owner Eric Brunkow wouldn't comment, citing the show's contract stipulation not to talk to the media. The restaurant's website didn't offer any information, except menus. The show could air in late fall. The Rochester Post-Bulletin has the full report. ________________________ Email the Star Tribune's state team: DatelineMN@startribune.com Follow us on Twitter: @DatelineMN
